You have pre-diabetes if your blood sugar called glucose is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Pre-diabetes is a serious medical condition that can be treated. The Diabetes Prevention Program study shows that if you have pre-diabetes you can prevent the development of full-blown diabetes. You do this by changing your diet and increasing your exercise level. Your blood glucose may even return to the normal range. When you have pre-diabetes, you have insulin resistance.
