Breast Cancer Screening
The goal of breast cancer screening is to help detect cancer at the earliest possible stage, when it is small and most treatable. There are three main types of screening for breast cancer--a breast self exam that you do yourself, a physical exam of your breasts done by your healthcare provider, and a screening mammogram, which is an x-ray of your breasts. Breast cancer may first appear as a painless lump in your breast that you can feel yourself. That’s why doing your breast self exam every month is an important part of breast cancer screening.
